Where can I learn about the semantic web? - Semantic Overflow most recent 30 from http://www.semanticoverflow.com 2010-03-18T05:51:33Z http://www.semanticoverflow.com/feeds/question/1 http://www.creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/2.5/rdf http://www.semanticoverflow.com/questions/1/where-can-i-learn-about-the-semantic-web Where can I learn about the semantic web? Andrew Matthews 2009-10-27T10:42:48Z 2009-11-11T01:20:00Z <p>When I first started taking an interest in semantic web technologies, I sought out places with quality information and opinion. Too often I found there was no up-to-date 'directory' listing the thought leaders in the field. Many information outlets were associated with specific products rather than design principles or standards. That made the initial learning process painful.</p> <p>For the first question in <code>SementicOverflow</code> I'd like your thoughts on where the richest sources of impartial semantic web wisdom and background are to be found. Where should I go, if I'm a beginner, to best help me ascend the semantic web learning curve? What about if I've grokked the fundamentals and want to dig deeper? How do I become a semantic web ninja?</p> <p><hr /></p> <h1>UPDATE</h1> <p>The following list shows the links provided so far.</p> <h2>Information Sites</h2> <ol> <li><a href="http://www.w3.org/2000/10/swap/Primer" rel="nofollow">W3C Primer</a></li> <li><a href="http://esw.w3.org/topic/" rel="nofollow">esw.w3.org/topic/</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.rdfabout.com/" rel="nofollow">www.rdfabout.com/</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.w3.org/2001/sw/" rel="nofollow">www.w3.org/2001/sw/</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.w3.org/DesignIssues/" rel="nofollow">www.w3.org/DesignIssues/</a></li> <li><a href="http://videolectures.net/Top/Computer%5FScience/Semantic%5FWeb/" rel="nofollow">videolectures.net/Top/Computer_Science/Semantic_Web/</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.semanticschool.com/" rel="nofollow">www.semanticschool.com/</a> (Polish, maybe English in future)</li> <li><a href="http://www.semanticweb.com/" rel="nofollow">semanticweb.com/</a></li> <li>Lee Feigenbaum's <a href="http://thefigtrees.net/lee/sw/links.html" rel="nofollow">tutorials</a> and <a href="http://www.slideshare.net/LeeFeigenbaum/semantic-web-landscape-2009" rel="nofollow">overview</a></li> <li>Aaron Swartz's <a href="http://notabug.com/2002/rdfprimer/" rel="nofollow">RDF Primer Primer</a></li> <li><a href="http://linkeddata.org/guides-and-tutorials" rel="nofollow">linkeddata.org</a> guides and tutorials</li> <li><a href="http://www.co-ode.org/" rel="nofollow">co-ode</a> guide to ontology development</li> <li><a href="http://blogs.talis.com/n2" rel="nofollow">Talis'</a> - HowTo and Getting Started guides</li> <li><a href="http://ontolog.cim3.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?WikiHomePage" rel="nofollow">Ontolog Forum</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.reddit.com/r/semanticweb/" rel="nofollow">Semantic web</a> at Reddit</li> <li><a href="http://semanticweb.org/wiki/Main%5FPage" rel="nofollow">semanticweb.org</a></li> <li>SemanticUniverse.com <a href="http://www.semantic-conference.com/" rel="nofollow">Semantic Technology Conference</a> site.</li> </ol> <h2>Blogs</h2> <ol> <li><a href="http://www.jenitennison.com/blog/" rel="nofollow">Jeni Tennison</a> </li> <li><a href="http://ivan-herman.name/" rel="nofollow">Ivan Herman</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.openlinksw.com/blog/~kidehen/" rel="nofollow">Kingsley Idehen</a> </li> <li><a href="http://webofdata.wordpress.com/" rel="nofollow">Michael Hausenblas</a> </li> <li><a href="http://blogs.sun.com/bblfish/" rel="nofollow">Henry Story</a> </li> <li><a href="http://blogs.talis.com/nodalities/" rel="nofollow">Talis' Nodalities Blog</a></li> <li><a href="http://www.planetrdf.com" rel="nofollow">planetrdf.com</a> - aggregated</li> </ol> <h2>Books</h2> <ol> <li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Semantic-Web-Working-Ontologist-Effective/dp/0123735564/ref=sr%5F1%5F1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1256697488&amp;sr=8-1" rel="nofollow">Semantic Web for the Working Ontologist</a> - Allemang &amp; Hendler</li> <li><a href="http://www.semantic-web-book.org/page/Foundations%5Fof%5FSemantic%5FWeb%5FTechnologies" rel="nofollow">foundations of semantic web technologies</a> - Hitzler, Krötzsch, Rudolph. </li> </ol> <h2>Good Answers Elsewhere</h2> <ol> <li>From <a href="http://www.semanticoverflow.com/questions/208/what-can-i-do-to-make-myself-semantic-web-literate/225#225" rel="nofollow">What can I do to make myself semantic web literate</a></li> </ol> http://www.semanticoverflow.com/questions/1/where-can-i-learn-about-the-semantic-web/2#2 Answer by yadnem for Where can I learn about the semantic web? yadnem 2009-10-27T12:57:10Z 2009-10-27T12:57:10Z <p>I think the following article by Tim Berners Lee is a really clear introduction the Semantic Web ...</p> <p><a href="http://www.w3.org/2000/10/swap/Primer" rel="nofollow">http://www.w3.org/2000/10/swap/Primer</a></p> http://www.semanticoverflow.com/questions/1/where-can-i-learn-about-the-semantic-web/3#3 Answer by Joshua Tauberer for Where can I learn about the semantic web?
